...I just have to walk down state street (during warm weather) and I'll see him on every other public bench.
Dozens of white kids, all of them a single tearful phonecall away from a warm bed and a hot meal, putting something above wealth. They crash on the floors of frends' apartments (presumably paid for with rent money, but not their rent money), or getting one of the limited number of beds at an overcrowded and underfunded shelter. There they are, drinking cheap booze, wearing leather, smoking pot, getting tattoos and piercings, and totally not being materialistic. Then I walk past them, and they take a quick break from smugly basking in their "putting something above money"-ness...
...and ask me for spare change. |
