| At my last job I had to listen to the same radio station every day for 9 hours a day because the owner of the company liked that station. This is the sort of thing they play! It totally destroyed me like kryptonite. I can handle any kind of crazy distress except adult contemporary music.
Since I have great taste in music I was able to coast for that whole year, plus another handful of months, on the years of intense listening I had done up to that point. But two or three months ago I just hit a fuckan wall and now I can't listen to new music any more. I make frightened gasping attempts (Nick Grey, Litmus) but really all I listen to are the following albums, over and over again: Yes - Close To The Edge Genesis - Selling England By The Pound Italians Do It Better (compilation) - After Dark Tous Les Matins Du Monde (sdtk) Lewis Taylor - Assorted b-sides David Sylvian - Brilliant Trees I can't even listen to Bowie anymore. I can't listen to anything. It hurts because I try to recommend music to people and I just don't even know what's going on anymore. People throw back Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Timbaland and I'm so fucked that I think "geez that sounds okay I guess." but none of it is exciting, and all of it is nauseating after a week or two. I don't even know how to look for music any more. |
