Let's see.
I'm going with the NFC West. It features:
1. The San Francisco 49ers. Are they the worst team in football? Yes! They have the worst record, and have lost to two other contenders, Miami and Chicago. They lost to Chicago in Craig Krenzel's first start ever. Their only win, against Arizona (more on them in a minute), required a defensive penalty on 4th and forever and two TDs with two-point conversions, just to force OT. Impressive they managed to score 16 in the waning minutes of the game yes, having to do it to beat Arizona, no. They could easily go 1-15 this season. There is no reason to think they'll get any better.
2. The Cardinals. Oh, they looked like they may have had something going there for a moment. But, Dennis Green decided Fuck that, and is going to start rookie John Navarre at QB. He's a seventh round pick. For football n00bs: there is no 8th round. But he's better than Shaun King. Shaun King on Sunday was the worst QB play I've seen in a long time. Where's McCown? This team is dead.
3. The Seahawks. What the fuck happened here? It's like that first Rams game, with the big lead they blew, just crushed them forever. They suck now. They lost to Arizona, went 0-2 against the Rams and got destroyed by the fucking Bills last Sunday. At home.
4. The Rams. The only, and I mean only, playoff-caliber team in this division. And with all that, they're only 5-5. They have to play Green Bay in Green Bay tonight, and close the season against the Eagles and the Jets. At least one Wild Card team will have a better record than the Rams will in the playoffs, and only the division winner is going from this sad-sack division, to die in Wild Card weekend.
I grant you, every other division has two obviously shitty teams. The NFC South is actually the best, with Atlanta winning with alarming regularity, Griese winning for the Bucs, the Saints are still the Saints (which is worthanywhere between 7- and 9-7), and the Panthers still scrapping. The NFC East is a very close second in this poll, since Washington is unqualifyingly awful, and both Dallas and New York are having to plug in rookies at QB. But I bet Dallas and New York could beat the Niners, Cards, and Seahawks. Washington, it's a pick 'em, but the edge goes to the West. |
