Here is a link to the game Fail-Safe, by Jon Ingold.
It takes about twenty-five minutes to play. An interpreter is required to run that .z5 file - if you are on Windows, Winfrotz works well. If you are on a Mac, or running Linux, doing a scan for a program called Frotz should get you up and running quickly.
(Actually, here is a directory with interpreters for virtually every operating system ever made.)
What I like about Fail-Safe is that it is a sci-fi game that does away with a lot of irritating text game issues - you don't even have to worry about keeping track of your inventory in the game, as you are essentially speaking to a NPC the whole time. If you type "i" (the shortcut for inventory you many text adventures) the game responds, "You... you what?" It sets you free, because you know you won't be facing a puzzle that has you picking up components to run a big dumb machine, or worrying about a timed hunger puzzle, or any of the other things that give IF a bad rep.
Fail-Safe is one of my favorite games ever, and does everything it needs to do within a time demand of a casual game.
