You could do that in the original FF4. When you first get Rydia, she has a rod, and if you go into item menu in combat, go all the way up to show equipped weapons, and select the rod, she'll shoot a bullet at an enemy for a pretty reasonable chunk of damage. In this, you have to have the weapon not equipped to use it as an item in combat, which is still okay.
I've done a few backtracks where I'd be halfway through a dungeon and then just pop out so I could stop at the inn and start all over, but fortunately the dungeons are incredibly small and simple to navigate so it's not like I have to slog through them to get back to where I left off (it's like 10 minutes to an inn and back easily).
Apparently they're updating FF4 in the same way, with 3Dness and stuff, which I'm reasonably excited about
That is the one I'll really want, and I know it's coming out in Japan on the 20th of December, so hopefully that means the American version will come out really soon after (either that or it'll come out like a year later, or never). :( Also I'm sure they'll delete the duplication trick which I actually figured out from scratch (I forgot how to even do it, but I got like 50 Excaliburs once and had Edge throw them all at Zeromus for 9999 each hit). |
