Maybe part of the problem is that many profoundly stupid women think that stalking is the mere presence of any guy that they mildly dislike who has expressed that most evil of emotions, affection.

No, it happens because a guy resents the woman's (emasculating) hold over his emotions and retaliates by showing her he is powerful. Often, the woman is complicit, or even encouraging, because she is addicted to the giddy whiff of danger his negative attentions provide.
