Well, I think the main attraction of Silent Hill games is the environment art. Silent Hill games are all like some kind of digital horror house, in that the main attraction of the game is simply the act of walking through it, and looking at all of the weird stuff. The puzzles in the series have never been on the level of Myst or Ico, and they seem to just be there to force the player to spend more time with the game.

I agree though, that SH4 had some problems with all of the bugs, and leeches, and tentacle monsters that are just annoying.

However, I thought the environments were stunning though, and because of that the game never really got tedious for me. I certainly didn't mind seeing all of the places again a second time.

I think Silent Hill is the wrong series for anyone looking for breakthrough puzzle gaming, or some engaging and exciting new combat system. They really are just about pure audio/visual candy.
