So recently BioWare released three (3) screenshots from their upcoming 360 title, Mass Effect, without running them by PR first. I don't really care enough to go look at them, but appently they were pretty bad and the internet was justifiably upset. So, in order to prove that - and I quote - Mass Effect's graphics haven't been "dumbed down" (what does that even mean in this context?), BioWare today released a new, properly posed, downscaled, and doctored screenshot:

Note the player-character's three dialogue choices, all of which presumably lead to the same node. They're making a game about guiding the thinking man's Richard Riddick through conversations consisting of "What?" "What?" and "More exposition plz" AND THEY'RE WORRIED ABOUT THE GRAPHICS LOOKING DUMBED-DOWN? I've hated BioWare ever since they decided Baldur's Gate II should be even LESS like Fallout than Baldur's Gate I, but this has lowered my opinion of them to a whole new level.

It probably wouldn't bother me so much if there were another western-style RPG coming out this year, but there's not.

I like Bioware very much and think they went the extra mile by adding any response options after "What the hell?!". Who isn't gonna click that?

Which reminds me to ask if anyone has ever published the statistics for the hundreds of thousands of dialog selections made in games like this. Psych grad's pay me $10 cafe vouchers to participate in their studies by imagining my responses in hypothetical situations of a sort that crop up very often in games like this. Or, if the data's not valuable to them, how about a dating agency? Who wouldn't inquire into the availability of a female 25 year old office supervisor that, when given a totally uncalled for put down by an Orc NPC, responded, "Save it for another day, Greeneyes. I've got work to do." from among half a dozen dialog options from the privacy of her home thinking no one was watching? What a turn on. How valuable.
