Arguments at work yesterday:
Heldentenor Zseni: So Ivan, who do you think is going to win?
Spinto Ivan: (energetically) You know what's good about Bush, though: whether he's right or wrong, he sticks to his guns. He doesn't waffle.
Ivan works somewhat down the Industry Margin from me, where the whirring of gears drowns out my banshee howl. That's why he hasn't been updated as to the New Thinking on Waffling to date.
Heldentenor Zseni: Would you mind telling me what's so fuckin' bad about waffling? Also, who do you think is going to win?
Spinto Ivan: (wanders away)
Ivan is the union steward who helped me with the hose and such when I sprained my ankle. Is he a nice guy? Is he a complete asshole? I've never been able to figure this one out. Anyway, two hours later:
Heldentenor Zseni: (beleaguering Coloratura Craig who works nearby) ...President Hillary isn't your bag huh?
Coloratura Craig: Well I guess it's just that kind of world these days, where anything can happen.
Spinto Ivan: (wandering back) The thing I can't stand about wafflers is - how can you trust someone like that? How can you trust a guy who can't make up his mind?
Coloratura Craig: Yeah... well she told me...
Craig's heard my New Thinking On Waffling lecture on a number of occasions. He likes it, along with my central thesis that the main problem with politics is that almost nobody wants to talk about politics when they can discuss the political opera instead. However, I bet that little fucker still voted Bush. The chances are very good that he did not vote for the ban on same-sex marriage, which was covered in last Wednesday's lecture "The Fuction and Meaning of Marriage to The State." (Thesis: marriage is, as far as the state goes, a simple contract not to be bound by anything above and beyond simple contract laws. The state has no interest in who the consenting parties are, so long as they are able to consent. The additional meanings attributed to marriage should be socially, not governmentally, enforced.)
Heldentenor Zseni: Whoa wait a minute you were just up here saying you backed a guy who will keep doing things he knows are wrong. That's not untrustworthy? It seems pretty untrustworthy to me. It's fucking criminal behavior!
Coloratura Craig: ...who do you think is going to win, Ivan?
Spinto Ivan: (wandering away)
Ivan hates it when I swear, the big weepy pussyfart.
You enormous faggot. |
