Not all of them xians hate Mother Earth - just the kiddyfuckers mainly. However, there are many staggeringly uncomfortable relationships between religious nuts of all stripes... and right-wing politicians. Perhaps the most salient point of overlap is a fear of any power doesn't, and won't, rest in the hands of either god or (by proxy) government: in this case, science. And not fantastical, almost theologically-inspired science, either: real, actual, power-decentralizing and de-stabilizing science.
The war on global warming is the war on science as conducted by people who make capital - financial, social, and political - exploiting human fears and hatreds of the unknown. Tightly controlling the discourse on subjects they don't understand, or refuse to acknowledge, is the only weapon at hand for most adherents of this particular faith. |
