CLRMAMEPRO is some sort of rom management software, which is exactly what I need. I don't have a better description of what this program does because it's completely fucking opaque to me. I can hit SCAN to scan my rom list... And then I have a list of my roms... and I can click the FIX NAMES checkbox to... fix names (that seems to make scanning longer). At the end of it all I have little idea what I've done. I know DAT files play a role. Let's check the documentation.
(exe based) DatFile are the files with the file information. Each DatFile has a corresponding SettingsFile which is stored in clrmamepro's Settings folder. DatFiles and SettingsFiles have the same filename but different extensions. DatFile extensions are normally *.dat and SettingsFiles have a *.cmp extension. clrmamepro stores all its settings (Paths, Scanner options, etc.) in that SettingsFile. If you use a new DatFile you can create a default SettingsFile for it or update an earlier used SettingsFile. Well that's that. I was hoping for an easy way to delete my busted and repeating roms or my mahjongs, but that appears to be only at the end of the two-year course that is Learning Clrmamepro. Way to go, free software authors. MAMEWAH is a popular front end for MAME, specifically for people with MAME cabinets. Customizable graphics and layout plus the ability to select the games with your joystick and buttons rather than clicking the icons with a mouse (the UI method for the awesomely user friendly Mame32). Most of my games don't run under Mamewah, for reasons unknown, and the ones that do use settings I wish to not use, like auto scaling, for example. I feel that with a lot of time and effort I can eventually iron out my Mamewah problems. It seems that there is a lot of effort devoted to making this MAME endeavour as fucking painful as possible. I didn't know how good I had it with Mame32. Bless you guys. |
