was just for prototype testing purposes. The actual MAME monitor is a 21" Mitsubishi I bought used for $90. So far it's awesome. I also like just looking at it and imagining the 1997 pricetag of $2000 or whatever.
It also helps to emulate the weight of the cab. Nice and sturdy. 21 inches for $90, though... Your land is a Monitor Paradise.
Whoa, disagree! You're fine with fuzzy pixels?
Well, in my defense, they all kind of look fuzzy on the SyncMaster. Adjusting otherwise is like adding A-1 to a Whopper. But I think what I meant to say was that I moved the default resolution to 800x600 and then brought it up or down on a game by game basis. I don't know why that came off differently last night. It sounds like I was ready to fistfight people who mentioned moving a game to 1024x768. This is a difficult spot in the MAME project timeline for me.
Chet once said that he couldn't understand why people would spend $600 on a video card and then get a totally shitty monitor. I agreed at the time, but I only seem to act when one of these things die.
My MO is turning off all the fake scaling ("Clean Stretch: Full"). Some games sit in the middle of the monitor, wasting 1/4 of the the real estate? Fine. It's better than soft pixels.
I suspect that will look perfect with the Space Invaders monitor bezel, which just might infringe a bit on the monitor's real estate when you assemble it. You'd want a border there.
