But are the baseball games any good? I'm not a baseball fan, mind you, but I was sort of under the impression that this might be their one area of non-complete suckitude. Also NBA Street 2 was pretty awesome, not that it really counts as a basketball game in any but the loosest sense.
Actually, yeah, one of the last baseball games they made was pretty good. I hesitate to recommend it based on something they pulled with Triple Play 98. The Blue Jays had Roger Clemens, Pat Hentgen and Juan Guzman, who were all good pitchers at the time. I played a quarter of a season and mostly used those three pitchers because I was on a 154 game schedule (everybody got more rest). They'd let up the occassional home run but for the most part the game seemed to realistically model low scoring games.
Well, I eventually read more about the game and the lazy fuckers at EA didn't put doubles or triples into the fucking game. People were seeing batters lead the league with 10 doubles. You either got a single or a home run. In the early 80s baseball games had pre-determined paths the ball could take if you hit it and there's TP98, basically upholding that fine tradition.
So I am very reluctant to say that MLB 2005 was definitely a good game -- if I took a closer look I'm sure I'd find that all players are right handed or that it's missing the NL West or something.
I agree with you about the Street games - lots of fun. They are fantastic rentals. You can't help but have a good time with them, especially with a bunch of people over.
