What did sparrows ever do to anyone besides be innocuous and brown?
I was going to reply that their favorite habitat is the eaves of your house, where they fill your attic with birdshit and noise, but it turns out that they're incorrigible imperialists:

...the [frustrated] male sparrow started a one bird campaign to destroy as many of the martin nests as he could. ... For the next several weeks, that one male sparrow destroyed 8 martin nests and around 50 eggs!
I like how he implies the sparrow is doing this because he can't get laid, as if he were talking about someone on the internet.

Tiny, pitiful naked bodies were everwhere. One on the pump house roof was dead and bloody. Three others, still alive, but barely, were hidden here and there in the grass. I gently gathered the three live baby birds to me and screamed to a neighbor for help.
It was hours before the fire department arrived.

"...I checked my bluebird house and was delighted to see five beautiful little (bluebird) hatchlings, still hairless. The next morning when I went to look, there were five dead hatchlings on the ground surrounding the house. The nest was empty, but smooth and undisturbed, and a male house sparrow was sitting on top of the house."
This guy stops short of accusing the sparrow, and lets us draw our own (baleful) conclusions.

And, if these accounts aren't disturbing enough, the sparrow's bellicosity has been captured on film.
