The Ultimate series is supposed to be a modern reinvention of classic Marvel comics...which means less multicolored spandex and more angst. There's the Ultimate X-men (where Colossus is gay, Beast is a bigger faggot and Wolverine has a bad goatee), Ultimate Fantastic Four (Reed Richards no longer looks like a science teacher :() and a bunch of others. For the most part these Ultimates things start out interesting and quickly become convuluted and boring like every other Marvel story.

Example: Iron Man is a daredevil playboy with terminal cancer and a WEIRD BRAIN that's spread out all over his body or something. In any case, It's not really a new Venom origin story so much as a rehashing of the old one.
