Tom DeLay, Tuesday wrote:

"My answer to those that want to offset the spending is sure, bring me the offsets, I'll be glad to do it. But nobody has been able to come up with any yet," the Texas Republican told reporters at his weekly briefing.

Asked if that meant the government was running at peak efficiency, Mr. DeLay said, "Yes, after 11 years of Republican majority we've pared it down pretty good."

Tom Coburn, Yesterday wrote:

Even before Bush spoke, some fiscal conservatives expressed alarm at the prospect of such massive federal outlays without cutting other spending.

"It is inexcusable for the White House and Congress to not even make the effort to find at least some offsets to this new spending," said Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. "No one in America believes the federal government is operating at peak efficiency and can't tighten its belt."

Anyway, the GOP is all over the place right now, as one NPR commentator today noted, "Playing on the other side's field." Which is an apt way of describing it, because now it's all about big government, and I'd be surprised if you hear anything about repealing the estate tax right now. Unless they think Paris Hilton will be donating all that money to (so) poor, (so) black people.

I'm just wondering when we reach hair ignition-level spending. Because I'm feeling it right now. My scalp is HOT.
