Verdict: unimpressed
First person max payne with better (demanding) graphics and zero refinements to five year old gameplay, except for them making their supernatural horror game more realisitc by not letting you hit anything unless you're standing still.
Atmosphere: pretty decent
Scripted scare events: weak and forced. It feels like the desingers had no clue what makes horror work, so they just took a bunch of token elements and threw them at you: little girl, blood, bloody footprints. It reminded me of ICJ's opinion on Postal 2: all they do is have an easy setup then don't do anything with it. "Come on guys, do some work!"
Negative: only carrying one weapon at a time*. Thank you, Halo. I still don't understand why people fell in love with this idea. God forbid I become a walking death machine with some variety at my disposal. You know what other game only let you use one weapon? Deus Ex 2.
* The Suffering 2 isn't looking so good. They take you out of the prison setting and put you in the slums of Baltimore in order to "turn the focus from the horrors of prison to the horrors of poverty". They promise sewer levels, and best of all: only two weapons at a time (fuck that blazing away at dozens of enemies with dual pistols, shotgun, and tommy guns all at once).
