Resident Evil 4 style of shooting, RE1 style of nonsensical puzzles. For example, not one but TWO strange engraved objects need to be inserted into a panel to unlock a set of bookcases so a path can be cleared. How do you get one of the strange engraved objects? By flushing a toilet so it will be flushed out of a broken pipe. But you need to trigger the sprinklers first because the toilet doesn't have any water. And you need to trigger a sprinkler using a Ring of Fire. I mean like an actual ring you wear on your finger that shoots fire. On the upside, while you might not have any clue as how to how to solve a given puzzle until you find pieces as you walk around since there's no "examine" option, they streamlined it in the sense that there's no fucking inventory fumbling. Find a piece? It goes into your inventory automatically. Need to use it in a puzzle? Game does it automatically when you get to the right spot. What's sad is that the style of the game is completely awesome, the shooting's not really that bad, but the on-rails "hold the A button to walk" and backtracking all over to solve dream logic puzzles fucks everything all up. I haven't gotten too far into it yet so I can't really say much about the story, but just from the opening sequence, "intriguingly insane" sounds about right. At the very least, if this game tanks I hope Capcom doesn't decide that weird-ass games have no market and that it was just the gamplay.
