But hey, I'm not married to this C# thing, and I don't presume to really have everything sorted out. My goal is to ultimately get a new job in a fun environment programming in something not so low level -- if you're reading this thinking "MASTER C++ FIRST, JACKASS" then I'm very interested in listening.

Well, generally what I hear from C# people is that it's a halfway decent language (especially the in gui area). Generally what I hear from MS C++ people is "I hate Microsoft". Being a C++ badass will generally net you higer pay than being a C# badass, though. I was just curious of your reasoning. If you're just going to write games, you'd use C++, but you're not, so you aren't.

Well, the game thing is the only method I can use to learn a language because I get motivated so well. There is (and I say this expecting that we'll get Bitter back soon to finish the search engine for this site -- certainly I am not going to dork about with this stuff if that task isn't going to be completed because I love you all and want you to be able to search for things) a tutorial here which is about a "Maze Game" in C++ and looks interesting and easy to modify into something. So I am going to try that before using DirectX. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SOMETHING MOVE ONNA GODDAMN SCREEN.
