| Apparently this was a really famous and/or important movie when it came out. So I finally rented and saw it for the first time tonight.
What has all the fuss been about? This movie was nominated for 7 oscars? All I got out of it was a re-discovered hatred of Minnesota accents. I guess the fact that it was based on actual events is a decent hook. But I found myself fast forwarding a lot. I get it, it's cold and snowy in North Dakota. And the people are dopey country bumpkins. Great, what's the point? Was America's love of this movie like that of the Crocodile Dundee movies, where everyone looked past all the crap because they fell in love with the funny foreigners? If that's the case: Mission Failed! |
