Played and beat the Demo. I was hit with waves of Diablo 2 vertigo down to the simplified skill tree and a magic system of fire/ice/lightening with some misc thrown in to compare with every other class from the aforementioned. You like clicking? Well fuck you with a barbed wire condom, bitch. One click and your automaton will wail away at goblin o
evil with fanatical zeal, a left need every so often to pop off a spell. Speaking of magic you'd better have stashed a point in healing spells or invest in finding your ass some healing potions because there is -no- rest function. Limited relief comes in red...yes, that's the universal healing color, and blue for mana, 'souls' that look remarkably like an artificial means to keep your character alive against overwhelming odds.
Help came in the form of a baby bear I kept from the slaughter by some syphilitic hunter (Dogmeat anyone?) controlled soley via AI and seemed to want to drag hopelessly higher level enemies before falling to them in one hit. Yay! Good to see you're not breaking the mold on NPC henchmen for ranking up with cerebral hemorrhaging in terms of uselful party contributions. Plot, plot will save this you say? Fuck you again my saucy wench. You are the scion of Lionheart who seems to have fathered quite the bastard brood and start off waking up with a neon faery/spirit thing telling you to run as some very fiendish looking bad ass plows through guards to wear your ass for a hat. Now I know Baldur's gate and the prodigal sons of Baal was hardly a fucking proprietary plot caveat, but really. Yet I reserve any real judgement, i.e. bitching and moaning, until the real thing hits.
Here's to hoping this can be pulled from SB's gerbil infested ass and become the stat-crunch-log^2-Fallout-cum-Middle-Ages-BDR-Wet-Dream it was meant to be. |
