They were fucking deleted. Which means if I had gone and seen the fucker at the theater, I wouldn't have known. I didn't until you told me, because I didn't like it enough to check on the DVD I rented.

When he spots a cute child playing about, he begins thinking out loud how "that goddamn kid's so fucking cute I just wanna fucking cave in his fucking skull. That fucking little fuck" or something to that extent. I mean, we've all felt like that, right? I think the chick's comments were more cute and harmless, his hinted at something darker, but slipped out at a time, that under the circumstances, made them a little less destructive. Or something.
Groovy. Somebody blew the fucking editing to leave out that bit, it honestly would have helped me get Egan's character a bit more.

The conclusion was a little abrupt, but I liked it for the fact that it broke enough rules of the romcom formula to avoid the inevitable conflict between the lovers that must be resolved irrationally in the final five minutes. He left her at the hospital, which wasn't a huge deal. He apologized. And just in case the apology fell through he brought along the harmonium.
That part was alright, actually. Although I'm no fan of anyone breaking a formula just for the sake of, it has to have a point, and come off well. Which brings me to this:

As far as the "showdown" with matress man, it did feel a little anticlimactic - especially following his transformation into bizarro-Punisher vs the Mullet Militia. I think the film was suggesting that maybe he had been repaired to a degree that he could control his rage even in the face of forces threatening to fuck it all up. It was offbeat and a surprise, like much of the film. It's a neat trick when a director can make an unpredictable film that just runs with it and manages to make it entertaining at the same time.
Y'see, the problem here isn't that he didn't whoop Hoffman's ass, it's that the scene was wholly unrealistic. Leaving aside for a moment the implication that he walked to Provo, Utah (I hope I'm wrong in that, but it sure as hell seemed like it) from CA, a thug like Hoffman's character is going to say "That's that?" and we're supposed to buy it? THAT'S FUCKING THAT IS FUCKING THAT? I blurted aloud to my girlfriend. What's worse, Hoffman's character doesn't even seem to buy it, he half-renigs on it at one point. Now, if Egan had got in his face and something more believable/final as a resolution occured, not necessarily violent, that would have been fine. Like Hoffman diving under a table and tossing money at Egan's feet, something that proved Egan's triumph better. It seems to me he wouldn't have left without clear evidence that they were done fucking with him. That didn't seem to happen IMO. It just didn't work.

Of course, I wouldn't expect it to appeal to everyone. Fussbett?
I'm not implying you're an idiot for liking it. It's just really hard for me to see the appeal as a "must-see."
