Fucking wonderful. Imagine Scorcese remaking Buffalo '66, with Adam Sandler instead of Vincent Gallo, then abort that analysis entirely because it's a better film by a different director.
Not much different, now that I mention it; there's more than ONE city out there, P.T.
PS: If you're the type of person who's inclined to skip the film because of Sandler's involvement, then definately see it right away.
...I didn't really like it. Dunno, maybe it was just me/the mood/the gf/itchy nuts, but I had problems with a lot of the film. I enjoyed Egan as a character/character study. The first part with the windows made me go "Holy shit," and the middle bit with the thugs made me go "Yeah!" but then the last part with Hoffman made me go "Ehn?" That was a real limp ending, followed by the dialogue with Watson re: leaving her at the ER. And then the fucking film ends? At that point? And why the hell was Watson attracted to him anyway? Who's that fruity and desperate? And their back-and-forth in the bedroom in Hawaii, what in her character hinted that she would say something like that? Or really, that even he would? Nothing, it's just "Hey, doesn't that freak you, the audience, out?" Yeah, I guess, but so what?
Don't get me wrong, some parts of the film are great. The frustration he feels from his sisters takes all of 5-10 minutes to get you to empathize with (and get really pissed off about), the feeling of impending doom brought about by the phone sex girl, the forklift scene, great stuff. But that just adds up to "an entertaining renter" than "a must-go-see-now."
