Cool, I guess I'll walk a couple miles along the side of the highway to see if I can find where I flung the CD. Have you installed the patch yet? Does it really help make the tolerable? (Mind you I pissed away a couple of nights on Empire of Magic so my tolerance is somewhat broad.)

Well, if you want my opinion, I didn't throw out the CDs. People seem to love it or hate it, I liked it well enough. The problem with the game wasn't the AI, but the bug that made the AI think it never had enough transports. The way to work around that was to simply obsolete your transport designs, but the computer players wouldn't do this, so then the computer players never built enough warships. That fucked everything, especially with the "point defense bug," but the game sort of still worked on some level, I did see a computer empire invade another computer player with ground troops, for instance--it happened, just rarely. Anyway, apparently now people are actually losing games on easy difficulty, big armadas of death and such.

I think I liked the direction MOO3 went because I had problems with Master of Orion 2: There was a cap on how many ships you could build. Fine. But then all the planetary defenses were worthless. You could either spread your fleet around, and get destroyed, or make one big fleet and just attack and hope you don't get attacked back. I hated the way it acted too much like Civ, too. Civ where most of the city improvements didn't do ass. Just personal taste. I liked the original MOO and I'd always played on the largest map. That's probably why I liked MOO3, anybody else, say somebody who liked MOO2 in a small galaxy, these people tend to hate MOO3. A person like this will complain the build que is too small, with only three slots. Somebody like me has no problem with that, because when I have 80 planets and the computer is filling my que's for me, I don't want more than three because it will mean I'll be building obsolete ship designs longer. And when I am building an obsolete design, it just doesn't bother me, where it drives some people nuts.

I say if you hated the game enough originally to toss the CD across the room or along a highway, you'll never like it, regardless how much they patch it. I'll probably get around to patching it myself and playing again next week.
