Combat seems to suffer from what I call "rock, paper, scissors mayhem" where, just like the "Age of" game, Homeworld, and Rise of Nations, there's little hope of controlling all your units once they're engaged in combat so most of the "strategy" is just sitting back and hoping that you have the right combo of scissor units to take down his paper.
Have you played any of the "Total War" games? With extended control over the formation and behavior of your units and overall army, true impact of the topography of the battlefield on the combat, morale and discipline properties for each unit and the possibility for flanking and other maneuvres, it offer very strategic, satisfying combat. Probably the best of any RTS I've played, but then again I never tried any of the apparently boring Panzer General-type of games. |
