-Shopping with your plutonic girlfriend in the intro. Who the hell designed this? "Shopping" and "plutonic" are the two words most dreaded by the all important male demograph. The game wants you to feel bad when you're forcibly seperated from her, but "I'm a free man!" was all that came my mind.
YM "platonic", HTH, HAND. Plutonic is a suitable word for the situation though, just not one that resides the the vocabulary of most of the all important male demographic. So bully to you, Wordman!
If this game was a woman, it would be the super hot one that leads you on into thinking you have a chance with her. Before you know it, you're shopping for shoes for with her, and for what? A quick peck on the cheek for spending an hour taking her dog to the vet. But you can't help it, she's too damn hot. You stick with it, because you know that someday, oh yes, someday, it'll happen.
Have I mentioned how great Legend of Mana is? On the one hand it's kind of nothing BUT medieval filler, but that's kind of the point. You build your own game out of subplots, which is pretty awesome. Also, I don't think it can be beat for twee and creepy personalities - the father who smothers his family in affection, the graveyard of toys, the last chance of the survival of a race hinging on a cowardly girl, the dean of the school of magic who leads his teachers on a wild and desperate goose chase in the desert in order to put on a fireworks show... You have a pet cactus, dude, who keeps a diary with stuff like "Surprise lesson of the day: penguins can fall in love!" written in it, when it isn't writing about how boring your stories are.
If Legend of Mana were a woman, she'd be the girl who vends props outside the Clinton Street Theatre performances of Rocky Horror Picture Show: adorable, cheerful, lingerie-clad, and so fucked up deep down where you can't see it even through her see-through bra. And fun to go shoe-shopping with! Maybe you should stop putting yourself through Stellar Fed Ex Boy and pick up a copy. |
