Understandable, but there are plenty of great ones that defy the soap opera bullshit conventions that so many modern comics are. Alan Moore's Watchmen or From Hell (radically different from the piss-poor movie). Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns or Daredevil Reborn. Neil Gaiman's Sandman. All simply say the hell with all the convoluted shit of the past, I'm making a good story. Watchmen in particular is very different as it tries to place the existence of superheroes in tights within the context of a more realistically reactive planet.

The secret if you are as allergic to the Super-Friends style as I am is to read these independent of all the happy horseshit that swirls around in the "let's put as many costumed freaks in one book as possible" style of comic book. Not that there's anything wrong with that....

But that Marvel website...wow...what pit of time....
