The one rum I have some hostility against (besides the obviously-too-cheap-to-be-safe brands like Crapiche and Heaven Hill) is Bacardi - fuck that shit. It tastes like crap and yet it's the only non-Captain rum most corner liquor stores carry. My personal standby is Castillo (spice), which is definitely bad for your liver but is very tasty for the $13.00/half-gallon price tag. Appleton is a lot better but costs twice as much.


Agreed about the Bacardi--a buddy of mine drinks it almost exclusively, and I can't stand it. He feels the same about Appleton, which is my drink of choice. There's no accounting for taste, I guess.

If you like Appleton, give Cruzan Single Barrel Estate a try, though it can be a little hard to find.
