Unfortunately, visiondirect.com did not have the same contact lenses I had been using. Not that I am in love with that kind or anything, but I thought that getting contacts exactly as my prescription stated would be the best way to go (my "base curve" is 8.9 and they only sold up to 8.8. I think this makes me a freak. Not sure.).
1-800-CONTACTS has a website. But it's terrible! Maybe it's that way to get people to type the number into the phone. They also presumed I wanted about 800 boxes of monthly contacts at six contacts a box when I went to place an order. You know, at some point they're going to cure poor vision and I'd like to not have hundreds of then-obsolete contacts running around the house, getting into things, laying eggs and so forth. So I tried to change my order to "1" box, but there was no way to get back to my shopping cart. Presumably I could do that if I logged in again, but apparently midway through my venture with them I was assigned a "Customer Number" and they wanted it before I was going to get anywhere further with them. What next, a series of guessing puzzles and trivia questions? Could I maybe do some quick coding for them on this one issue they had before going any further? Could I get a member of the staff a Dr. Pepper from the fridge and drop it off if it wasn't too much trouble? What a shitty website. Note to the guys running that place: I don't want to memorize another goddamn number on the net. Especially one assigned by you. Change your software -- it was written incompetently and it's costing you sales. Actually, don't bother, I don't really care.
"AC Lens" was next up and everything went smoothly there. I was considering having to run into a wall a few times to get my curvature down, but they had mine in stock. Keen!
So thanks, Caltrops Denizens. If the curve of my eyes changes or if my contact lens appears in stock in the future I'll give visiondirect a test drive next.
