| Been talking to a friend in the Planetside beta (the MMOFPS for those of you who are forgetful), and what I'm hearing is quite promising - he's an old, old Tribes addict (and MMO addict) and tends to take the game quite seriously. So it was with some surprise that I heard him tell me today that Planetside is much like Tribes writ very, very large. The game is apparently divided up into several continents which contain bases each side fights over.
He's one of the most jaded people I know (think jeep, here) but described being extremely impressed watching roughly 64 players take off in 8 or so assault carriers simultaneously in a massive frontal wave - that's both sides of a large Tribes server all at once for one assault on a base. The whole idea sounds extremely attractive to me and I'm finding it hard to surpress my fanboi. Tribes 2 was such a disappointment and while the graphics for Planetside are clearly nothing to write home about, if the gameplay scales sufficiently to accommodate a full crowd this might seriously be the first MMO game I've considered playing seriously for a long, long time. --SB |
