There was a DVD version of Baldur's Gate II that was released at one point, dunno about BG1. While the DVD wouldn't come close to being full, it's handy due to the disc-swapping thing. I'll presume it was Interplay's decision and not Black Isle's, but the constant fucking disc-swapping sums up everything wrong with the industry's laughable attempt at copy protection. You are expected to put the BG2 expansion disc in the drive when starting your game, regardless of where you are. So the typical process is 1) eject the disc that's in there, 2) put in the expansion disc 3) load your game 4) put in the disc that contains the area your save game takes place in. Every fucking time. Fucking assholes. I was never able to find a file to eliminate the CD check that dealt with the Bhaal expansion correctly on GameCopyWorld.
... Actually, I imagine you went through all of this just like I did, so I am just venting for venting's sake. But the same publishers that furiously masturbate to the idea that they are doing anything other than pissing off their legitimate consumers by putting in those terrible "checks" also refuse to put out a DVD alternative for the games they release that span multiple CDs. Reason #69,105 to despise publishers, I guess.
