This series for shit. The animation is atrocious - keep an eye out for the single-cel hopping Omi in the first episode. The plot is so over-the-top and full of holes it might as well be Japan's missile defense system - a team of four assassins-by-night, florists-by-day seek the evildoers of Tokyo, only GASP those evildoers want the leader's SISTER FOR A DARK RITUAL OMFG. And they don't even get around to that part until the second half of the series. Don't even ask about the characters; they are wireframes on which to drape the very finest excuses to cry and kill things that a team of voice actors can come up with. Oh yeah, it's all about the voice actors, and the lead guy designed the show, and they sing all the songs (not very well, for voice actors.) It's awful. It's really, really, really bad, and I wouldn't get caught watching it for love or money.

However in private I'm on my second go-round. This is because despite its many gazillions of flaws Weiss Kreuz is freakishly watchable; I have decided that it's good because it's so clumsy and dirty and badly done. They aren't messing around with anything unimportant: if there is to be a fight scene, it needs a dramatic location, so let's insert a dramatic location without worrying about the whys and hows. Does a character want to leave? Ooh, a purple-prosed speech should just up and out of even the most taciturn fellow's mouth. It's less like watching anime and more like watching someone's fantasy life - specifically the voice actors', who aren't shy about making their respective characters look and act as much like them as is practical - and for that reason it's compelling. Steer well away from it if you're an AV purist or unable to suspend disbelief or have good taste, but for those of us favored with gullibility and a weakness for bishies, it's just damn fine.
