"$5 YMMV shooter" sounds just right by Nick Spaz 11/16/2025, 8:37pm PST
Unfortunately my mileage was I got bored before I reached the end of the opening news station level.

It wouldn't be true to Robocop if you weren't a slow, plodding tank. But it makes it so there's very little tactical point to doing anything but walking forward. Feels like this would have been better off as a rail shooter gallery like Time Crises.

The cutscenes are dull, long wastes of time. Not an ounce of Robo humor to be found. The kid friendly Saturday morning cartoon had more wit to it. Skip every cutscene and don't feel sorry.

I could have looked past the above if they absolutely nailed the one thing that matters most in a Robocop game: visceral violence. The theme song kicks in, you hear the clomping of Robo's feet. Oh fuck YEAH it's time to gib some criminals!

No. It's bad. Really stilted. You fire off a 3 round burst of Robo's famous overkill gun, and even the weediest basic punk enemy only reels back like they took a medium punch before standing straight again. A generic blood spurt. Hit every basic enemy with exactly 2 bursts to see exactly the same 2 recoil animations before they drop dead. The 1998 version of Sin, running on the Quake 2 engine, had more reactive enemy damage animations. This should have been the spiritual successor to Soldier of Fortune with a dozen different gibs and limbs exploding. Instead it's Time Crises deaths with blood.

You can pick up computer monitors and chuck them like the gravity gun. There is more impact to hitting enemies with these than blasting them with Robo's semi-auto cannon.

This review is probably pointless because you can pretty much get the whole feel just from watching a playthrough of the first level.
