MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Elon Musk recently placed a new company logo across the roof of xAI’s giant Colossus 2 supercomputer in Memphis, which might offer clues to what the mission could be for the city’s second xAI facility.

The giant letters spell “MACROHARD,” and they are big enough that they can be read from space, Musk says.

What is Macrohard? Musk has said in X posts that the name is a tongue-in-cheek reference to rival Microsoft.


But beyond the name, Musk says the company’s mission is serious — an autonomous AI software company.

Musk said back in August that the company is building “a fully AI-simulated software company. The goal: since firms like Microsoft produce no physical hardware, AI could theoretically replicate their entire operations—from coding to management. It’s real, and we’re hiring!“

Grok, the AI chatbot run by xAI, provided more information: “Macrohard, under xAI, aims to create a fully AI-simulated software company. It will ‘sell’ AI-generated software solutions, like specialized agents for coding, image generation, workflow automation, and more—collaborating in multi-agent systems powered by Grok.”
