Caltrops - Gamerasutra - Am I crazy, or is Devil May Cry 2 not quite all its cracked up to be?

Dante is no longer the most asskicking demon hunter ever who shrugs off getting impaled by electric swords and mocks 50-foot-wide magma spiders to their faces - he's just some generic guy with white hair and a big sword. Does he even say anything this time around?

Lucia's the same as Dante, except she's weaker and faster and hotter!!!!!! WHOA!

One of the bosses was nifty - the fire-breathing pissed-off titanic orangoutan or however you spell it. Fun stuff. The others I've seen were pretty forgettable and incredibly easy to defeat. And none of them have any personality the way the griffon, magma spider and dark knight did.

Is there a story here at all? Even a stupid, cheesy one like the original? I still can't tell. The huge lack of doing anything besides constantly battling things hasn't helped me determine what the hell it is I'm supposed to be doing.

Also, the combat is far more stylish, but it's damn near impossible to get combo ratings higher than 'C'. Yet you won't need to since you can get all the power-ups you need with just the individual kills, not going for combos. Boo. And the power-ups

Meh. Maybe I'm being too harsh, but I'm already beginning to wish I had rented this first. At least the graphics and animation is downright dazzling at times.
