It was a thing that stuck into my side (there's still a hole there 11 years later). It was supposed to be an outpatient thing but the pain was quickly way too much to bear and it caused an ileus, which is where my intestines stopped working, basically. That was the real danger, that they'd stop and I'd just die.
They did this to me three times. The first one and the last one were done by my surgeon's favorite guy for this outpatient shit. *I* wonder if he's an incompetent jackass because the second time was done by a different guy and it worked as advertised. Mild pain, and I was able to keep the stent for 3 months or whatever. But the third attempt was the worst, another ileus, and the one where I was maybe the closest to buying it. After that I said, I don't think I can do this. My surgeon agreed and we went a different route, a surgical fix that was also a real low point for me. 17 days in the hospital.
