I fear that when we as Americans (/looks up nationality of Shatner and Nimoy) errr I mean North Americans start going to space, the first few Captains are going to demand that the ships are made of carbon fiber and cheap out on the welding because they toured the ship yards and know best. Our "first contact" moment will be a bit botched because as the aliens are trying to send us a message of friendship, our first few ships spontaneously implode.
Aliens just patiently waiting between Mars and Jupiter, smiles wide, ready to give us the secrets to defeating cancer and dementia as one ship after another makes it there, rattles vigorously and blows up. |
