Other than the standard missle defence / tax cuts / blah blah etc... here is what I thought was notable:
- $400 billion for drugs for seniors, but only $1.2 billion for fuel cells? I think Fuel Cell Propulsion Tech Level 1 is a bit more important than exctending the lives of non-productive citizens a few more years
- He never really specified how he planed on cutting power plant emissions 70% over the next 15 years, now did he? Nukular is the only way I can think of
- I like the commitment to fighting The AIDS in Africa. It's at least a start, and I hope that once we say to ourselves "we are doing this", we won't quit until it's done. It's about time. Even though he is only doing it to say to the world "Look, we really do care about people and such and not just oil!!!!!!!!" It's still the right thing to do despite the motives.
- Iran. WTF? Is he saying we are going to start support Iranian "freedom fighters"?
- Quit with the damn hinting about, and just give the world the evidence you claim to have on the nukular weapons. Cock tease.
Also, I liked this line:
"We will not permit the triumph of violence in the affairs of men; free people will set the course of history."
1. GE already puts this much into hydrogen-powered car research every year (to quote them, "about one billion dollars a year - as much as an entire product rollout")
2. No he didn't specify. What a pleasant dream - maybe they've found a way to decrease the pollution of oil-based power if you use three times as much oil? Then it all makes sense.
3. Fighting AIDS in Africa. Like we've been doing since his administration moved in and began decreasing condom aid and increasing food aid. That's a great idea! Let's remove birth control and feed the people so they'll make even MORE babies! This problem won't spiral out of control!
4. My Counter-Strike round was particularly loud at that point. No idea.
5. I'll believe it when Germany believes it. The French are too liberal even for me.
6. Pity for NASA, there was high hope he would announce a JFK-like defining statement 'TOWARDS MARS' in this address, I believe.
