| It is right of you to ask me these questions.
I bought Crystal Castles in cocktail form in 1999. I was living in an apartment and I thought that a standup version would be "too big," I guess the cocktails take up more floor space if you account for two people - head to head - and their chairs. It did end up becoming a table my roommate and I would put our keys on. You can't really eat on them very well as there isn't enough space for your knees to comfortably fit under the control panel. You can put drinks on them! And the versus mode works really well for Warlords. Four people moving their little shields around is as good a time as you can have in gaming. Centipede would benefit from a mode where both players are shooting at the same time from opposite ends of the screen. Someone should make that. Like many of us (some of us) I have memories of seeing a cocktail Pac-Man at a Pizza Hut as a kid. I felt loved as a child because my mother and father would give me quarters. Now that I am typing all this out, I recall there was a pizza slice place in downtown Denver that did not have good slices. They were always empty at lunchtime. They had a cocktail Ms. Pac-Man. While waiting for the pizza that I would not enjoy, I would put a quarter in and play. I am not good at Ms. Pac-Man. I don't think I ate using it as the table, but I might have. I am glad we live in a world with games of this style. |
