Download 77GB, update my drivers because it says it won't work without the absolute latest drivers even though the drivers I have were released over a year after this game, and then get a screen that says "Log in to your Bethesda.net account. This will link your Steam account for automatic login." Impossible to proceed without creating an online account and logging in, even though I don't want to use any online features. No option to simply let me into my offline single-player game and cross the online bridge when I change my mind. I guess I should have read the fine 6pt font print in the sidebar of the store page.
I hated this all the way back in 2010 and it didn't get any better. I will sign up for an online account if you give me a reason, but that reason is not locking me out of my purchase from another online service. Gimme my fuckin money back.
I guess in the last 2 years or so, everybody decided they needed their own communities for match making and leaderboards and a whole lot of HULGALUHGALUGHLUALHUGHLUALHUGALG. I now have accounts with Steam, Games for Windows Live, Battle.Net, Rockstar, Runic Games, EA, Gamespy, Criterion, and probably several others. And it's only going to get worse. Pretty soon I'll have as many user accounts as there are developers and publishers. Special editions of games will start shipping with a fucking rolodex shaped like a dragon to hold all my damn account info. And when you open it up, it roars!
Can we just pick something, already? I can't find the other post that also mentioned it, but how retarded is it that I have to log into Steam to play a game that makes me log into another service to play their dumb game? Fuck people, I want technology to simplify things. |
