| When everyone saw Doom 2016 with all the enemies barfing up health and armor every time they got killed we were rightly suspicious but despite all that the game itself was pretty good. Well unfortunately we can lump Doom Eternal in with Shadow Warrior 2 and The New Colossus as a classic FPS remake where the devs get big heads and just make a mess out of everything with the sequel. I guess I had too high hopes to expect them to not fuck too much with the formula.
Doom Eternal is a total piece of shit. It's such a fucking ADD mess. Not that it the matters but the story is some confusing reset from 2016 which honestly feels like a Dark Souls game where the game keeps talking about fantasy bullshit as if it has any meaning to you. The Betrayer or Crach Mol Aryn oooooo aaaaaa, I guess I missed out on the comics I was supposed to read between the games. There's a bunch of irritating bullshit platforming in there too for no good reason but because when they interviewed 200 people in California they said their favorite thing about video games was 'Speed Running'. The platforming is so trite it even features Mario obstacles like spinning lines of fire and dash refills from the awful I wanna be the guy style games. Though all that is secondary to the gameplay which is just more bullshit platforming and nonsense. You have a grenade and flamethower that are on cooldown like an MMO, your dash is on a cooldown, your punch does no damage (except when it's off cooldown and then it does an aoe), everything's a fucking cooldown because hey why the fuck not. Enemies have a stupid weakpoint system which means you get blasted with shit or they take forever to kill unless you do a specific thing like shooting the gun off the minispider demons or shooting a grenade in the mouth of a cacodemon(and every time there's a lame cartoon sound effect to accompany it). You'll do that same thing every time you see those enemies because that's what you're supposed to do and the whole time you're going to be jumping and dashing and lobbing grenades on cool down and I absolutely fucking hated it. I don't know if it's to make it out to be some fucking e-sport or because they wanted to base game to play more like their multiplayer mode that they're trying to make out to be some kind of e-sport but the entire game repels me. I don't even want to play it past the second level. I don't want to run around shooting grenades in every cacodemon's mouth with a cartoon sound effect, I don't want to use my CC dash to stun enemies, and I don't want to swing on the fucking monkey bars. What a disgusting piece of shit they made. |
