Agreed plus AVOID THE SEQUELS LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! by Mischief Maker 01/06/2003, 11:57am PST "Dune" and "Rendezvous with Rama" are my two favorite science fiction books of all time. I read Dune at least once every two years. Goddamnit! Duke Leto's gonna make it this time! Oh well. Sadly they both have the WORST SEQUELS EVAR. Don't be tempted into lowering your standards for the Dune ones. They not only suck but they ruin the plot entirely and piss you off. Not to mention none of them have the same kind of alien immersion that Dune had. On a side note, I think "The Gunslinger" is Steven King's greatest work but have found all the sequels that followed to be total shit. I'm no longer holding my breath for the completion of the series. Unless King kills every one of Roland's goofy pals (especially Oy. God dammned Oy.) I don't see how the finale could do anything but disappoint.
