Does the Foundation Series Suck? by Mischief Maker 01/04/2003, 12:54pm PST
I've got a long flight to Europe coming up and I need some solidly entertaining books to keep me occupied. Having just decided that I'm just too impatient with hobbits at bars talking about how queer Bilbo and Frodo are living alone together in Bag-End, hearing every single item that Bilbo gave to the Shire in his will, and wasting time with mushrooms, elves that don't do anything, and the other shit that takes up the first 500+ pages of fellowship before the real plot starts to read "Lord of the Rings" again, I'm eyeing Foundation as it's one of the few big Sci-Fi/Fantasy classic series I haven't read.

However, I don't trust the sheer number of sequels this series has. I don't wish to get burned by Dune/Rama style endless terrible sequels again. So to those of you who have read these books, do the sequels suck? Is the series all it's cracked up to be?

Anyone have any other good book series to reccomend? I've been eyeing Illuminus! but I don't think that's the wisest book to carry onto a plane with the TIA watching. How about Clive Barker's books of blood?

Am I the only one who finds Amazon.com reviews to be completely useless?
