Don't get me wrong, the battle system is inspired. Both the bullet-hell defense mini-game, and the mercy system turning encounters into small puzzles if you don't want to fight. I also enjoyed the opening up through leaving Toriel. After that, the game rapidly wore out its welcome. I've spent two and a half hours walking from left to right in a giant corridor while jokez happen or wacky flavor text if you inspect things. I guess the appeal is lol so random? It feels like the game is constantly wasting my time, even in battle.
I stopped playing when going through the level with the floor spikes and no map and and it got really boring and the controls sucks for that sort of minigame. It felt really bare bones for an RPG - no skill tree or other party members. There were two inventory slots and nothing you got was that good. The puzzles there are more of a meta commentary on RPG puzzles.
As a dungeon crawler with a nifty combat system it's fine. As an RPG, not so much. |
