Undertale and stuff by Rafiki 05/13/2020, 3:59pm PDT
I got a bunch of games in that covid Humble Bundle that was linked a month ago.

A Good Snowman is Hard to Build

A puzzle game that will keep you occupied for 2 or 3 hours. This is something you would play on an iPad or a Switch while sitting in an airport. If it's $2 and you need to kill some time, it's serviceable. Otherwise, don't bother.

Totally Accurate Battle Simulator

I guess I don't have the imagination for something like this. I expected something kind of like Lemmings where you'd get a set of troops and have to figure out the puzzle of defeating the enemy army. That describes the tutorial, sort of. After that, you unlock a campaign that gives you access to everything but with a varying amount of money to buy units. It doesn't take long to find the absurdly powerful units and just use those to wipe out the enemy army. Then it's just a boring grind through different levels. I guess the real fun is supposed to be experimenting with different army compositions and then zooming in real close to watch them flail and ragdoll around? If an army-man sandbox appeals to you, go for it, otherwise it's super boring.

Superhot

This is like a perfect example of trying really hard to ruin something good. It should never have had a story. And it should never have had that stupid fucking SUPER. HOT. on endless repeat over your replay. Take that out, take out the story, and just have nothing but a pile of puzzle levels and this would be legit great.

Undertale

I don't understand the hype. I searched on Caltrops and nobody really reviewed it, but of the few mentions it looks like the consensus was that it was kind of crap, proving that, once again, Caltrops is one of the only places you can trust for recommendations.

Don't get me wrong, the battle system is inspired. Both the bullet-hell defense mini-game, and the mercy system turning encounters into small puzzles if you don't want to fight. I also enjoyed the opening up through leaving Toriel. After that, the game rapidly wore out its welcome. I've spent two and a half hours walking from left to right in a giant corridor while jokez happen or wacky flavor text if you inspect things. I guess the appeal is lol so random? It feels like the game is constantly wasting my time, even in battle.

It's made by 1 guy who I guess sold 5 million copies now, so, hey, good on him for becoming a millionaire. There's a couple of good ideas in here so it's not like it's total garbage, but jesus it's overrated.
