The developers of Injustice 2 managed to fix their repulsive female faces between reveal and launch, but it required "an enormous cross-discipline team effort to replace the whole facial creation pipeline". It turns out their artists possessed neither the knowledge nor the technology to produce convincing girl heads. The lighting system that worked adequately for big, masculine facial features choked on smaller, more feminine ones. Exaggerated animations fit for cartoon men made women look coarse and unappealing. On top of that, artists had to be taught what a woman's face looks like at a fundamental level, and how makeup appears to change it. The team even went so far as to solicit feedback from actual women, to try and find out where they were going so terrifyingly wrong. I think these before and after screenshots speak for themselves.
