I mean take his comment that "The numbers slowly go up and that's it." That's wildly misleading. First of all, one of the things I like about Darkest Dungeon is that instead of being part of the Final Fantasy school of RPGs where level 1 characters have 1000 hit points and do hundreds of damage with their basic attack, DD is in the Mario RPG school of smaller numbers where every +1 has a significant effect. As those numbers go up in DD, the strategic dimensions widen. I'll use the example of his question why use the vestal healer when the occultist healer seems superior at level 0? Now the Vestal has a single-target heal that does a measly 3-5 damage, and a party heal that does a measly 1-2, while the occultist has a single target heal that does a whopping 0-12 healing but has a 59% risk of also hitting the character with a 3 damage bleed DOT. At level 0 the occultist is totally superior to the vestal. But when the vestal's skill levels get maxed her group heal becomes 3-4, which spread over all four characters every round makes your team incredibly durable. Meanwhile the max power occultist single-target heal does indeed have a chance to do way more healing, 0-20, but the chance and severity of his bleeding DOT increase as well, 85% chance of 9 damage. Late game the vestal is super reliable effective and reliable while using the occultist is much more of a gamble. And like I said in the post title, you can challenge the Final Dungeon with your starting party on day 1 if you want. The point of the other four dungeons and their accompanying bosses is to grind for hamlet upgrades, XP, and rare trinkets to put together your delta force to take the last boss down. In fact the NG+ has a time limit that I don't think will allow you to 100% the optional dungeons and still beat the game in time.
