---------- seeks to be a welcoming and inclusive campus for all members of our community, campus affiliates, and visitors. As such, we are committed to creating an affirming environment for transgender, genderqueer, and gender nonconforming students, faculty, and staff.

As part of our ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, ---------- welcomes gender diversity. As such, in addition to existing gender-specific restrooms, it is important to make inclusive restrooms available to all members of our community. For transgender, genderqueer, and gender nonconforming individuals, gender-specific restrooms can be a place where they are met with intimidation, harassment, and/or violence. We believe having a safe place to go is a fundamental right of all members of our community.

After reviewing a proposal developed by ----------, -------'s LGBTQ+ student organization, and in consultation with President --------, Vice President ---------, and our colleagues in Facilities, we have decided to revise some of our restroom signage and to change select restrooms to inclusive restrooms. In the next week or so, the following changes to restroom signage will start to occur:

· All single-user restrooms that are currently gender-specific in non-residential areas will be designated as inclusive restrooms with appropriate signage. These single-user restrooms will no longer bear signage that indicates that they are for men or women.

· The vast majority of multi-stall gender-specific restrooms for women and men will remain as they are currently. New signage will be added to these restrooms that encourages individuals to use the restroom that best fits their gender identity.

· Lastly, select multi-stall restrooms in high traffic areas where there are no single-user restrooms will be changed to multi-stall inclusive restrooms, meaning any person can use them.


We recognize that change can be uncomfortable. As -------- makes changes to increase access for members of our community, we all have the opportunity to commit to adjusting to the changes before us. This is an opportunity to engage critically around ideas of gender, comfort, public/private spaces, and social practices. You are free to choose the restroom that is most comfortable for you. Should you prefer not to use a multi-stall inclusive restroom, you have the option to use a gender-specific or single-user restroom in the vicinity or on a different floor.
