Let's be real: it's the best thing in the genre since the original Xcom.
I had this memorable fight. It's that mission where you go to that mansion and get ambushed in the courtyard. Instead of escaping out the front gate as I usually did, my guys rushed the house, each murdering one ambusher before diving through the door to relative safety.
My medic bitch was the last one through the door, which she closed before ending the turn.
In the enemies' turn, those assholes hosed the door with bullets, turning the medic into hamburger, barely alive. She spent most of the rest of the battle trying to save herself.
My other guys proceded with the mission, going on a killing spree through the mansion. My sniper stayed behind to guard the medic who was struggling with forceps and bandages in a corner. A ton of enemies were trying to rush the door, so the sniper would pop out from cover and headshot a guy each turn, switching to short range quadruple-taps with his Walther P38 pistol as the mass of enemies got closer.
It got so bad the medic had to pause her work, grab her P38 and help out, emptying mags out the door. It culminated with the sniper running out of pistol mags, switching back to his 98K rifle and desperately attempting short range head snapshots. At one point he managed two headshot kills in a row in a single turn. Needless to say, he got slapped with a medal after mission completion. |
