Has a lot of mechanical noise from the cord though.
I don't know what you mean by this. Like, if the cord jiggles around it creates a static-y sound? Unraveling it sounds like an impact wrench?
It's not a common term. Basically anything that physically touches any part of the headphones will make noise. Imagine sticking your head underwater and having someone thump the side of the pool. It's not a huge deal, but if you have them off and are using them as simple earplugs you'll hear it every time the cord bounces around and rubs on your jacket or what have you.
Noise isolation / cancellation / whatever are all the same to me, so these headphones would be just fine. I didn't know to differentiate. I just wanted something that did a good job of blocking out ambient noise like plane engines or the moans of the dying.
As noted, active canceling is very effective for things like planes or road noise or anything steady-state. It doesn't do jack shit for transient noises, and I simply prefer the convenience of having a quality speaker inside the earplugs I'd be wearing on the train every day anyways. As far as isolation, I am always paranoid that there is a garbage truck RIGHT BEHIND ME every time I actually try to wear them in public, but I probably won't hear it if it does hit me anyways so it's probably fine. |
